Uncle Tim's eGuitarCenter - Technical Training For Guitar

Lesson one

F major is a mini barre chord. The C and F notes are played by pressing the notes down with the index finger. The index finger holds down and plays two notes.

Notice the chord only has four notes in it. This particular chord can be altered to use all six strings but that would increase the level of difficulty. For now, use this form and pay close attention to the task the index finger is responsible for.

G major is another good example of a chord that is difficult to play if you are not using proper technique.

In order to play the G note with your second finger you must either smash your palm against the fretboard or adjust your hand position so your thumb is directly on the ridge of the back of the guitar. Keep your palm away from the fretboard if you can.

A minor is another easy chord and very useful. Notice how the second and third fingers play the E and A notes.

This is very similar to the E minor form played earlier. In fact this exact form will be used again for different chords. Play all the strings and let this chord ring too.
